So, I said I was using more 35mm these days. This isn't one of those photos. However, this digital test shot came out pretty nice. Hopefully the 400speed Portra turns out this well.

Getting back into 35mm. Got a new/15yrd old Canon Elan 7ne. Big plans. Stay tuned.

So I started a small project recently that involved photographs of birds. This has been surprisingly fruitful and interesting. Funny thing about birds, they're small and don't stand still at all. So they are very challenging to photograph but when you get a good one, its all that much more rewarding.

Got to do a promo shoot with my buddies in Amplifiers. Things got weird.

Had a impromptu session with Harmony Hot Haus.

Yesterday my friend and I went on a photo adventure around North West Pa. Spent time in Franklin, Oil City and Meadville. It was really great to just go and no worry about building a particular body of work, or having the pressure of a job weighing on the process. I used my prime f1.4 50mm all day long. I've been trying to get better with working with what I have. I have a bunch of weddings up this summer and I need to constantly remind myself to work within my means. Sometimes this is a matter of not thinking about other lenses, cameras, flashes, gear, etc. Its being comfortable with your own eye and remembering gear only frames perspective, it does not create it. These towns are beautiful slices of America. It only take a few hours of emersion to start to see the elements that make them unique. I hope to spend more time this summer getting to know these and other locations that are often overlooked. They are not sexy, they aren't easy to shoot, theres not tons of eye candy to work around. This is what makes them so attractive and the discoveries so much more rewarding.

Round 3 of the next Harmony Hot Haus album is in the books. Or more specifically a hard disk.

As you all can tell. I've been into windows recently.

Since my band has been on a pseudo hiatus, I've been doing a lot of writing and reworking existing material into something which should have a better shot. Last weekend I was lucky enough to stumble upon a folk band some friends of mine are in. I showed up with my terribly underused acoustic bass and was able to sit in on a few songs. It felt really good to play music with other live, non-computer-type people.  Two of these musicians are part of Harmony Hot Haus who I'm in the process of recording their second LP. Hopefully more to come on that sooner than later.

I was honored to photograph a show this weekend at Club Cafe in the SouthSide. Tommy Magik and the Wonderfuls have been around for almost 15 years. The first show, my first band ever played was with these guys. Their first album "Science in the Hands of an Angry God" basically taught be how to sing. So you have them to thank for that... Honestly though, these are four of the nicest dudes you could ever hope to meet, insane musicians and a givers of hope in a dark world.

I got to assist on a beautiful wedding last weekend as a second for my great friend Sarah Dixon.                                                                  http://www.sarahjdixonphotography.com/

A muse can take many forms. I've been lucky enough to be friends with Nic for almost 15 years now. He has arguably been one of the most influential people in my life. Mainly for this simple reason, after all these years, he is still the guy that will call me up and say "Hey man, I found this terrible suit, we need to go take some photos in the park." I feel he is one of the few people that, like me, sees the absurdity of the world as simple, profound and unshakably beautiful.

Nic about this time last year. We did our best to recreate the vibe of those old turn of the century ghost photos. (all in camera)

Every day is a transition

"Thus, the man who is responsive to artistic stimuli reacts to the reality of dreams as does the philosopher to the reality of existence; he observes closely, and he enjoys his observation: for it is out of these images that he interprets life, out of these processes that he trains himself for life." - Nietzsche
